Self-host
Running today. On your hardware.
The hosted product is in waitlist. The self-hosted stack is MIT open source and already runs in production โ pick the path that matches your hardware. Both end at the same place: an Ubuntu 24.04 box on your tailnet running the spark-vm stack.
Option A โ you have Unraid
In the Unraid web UI, create an Ubuntu 24.04 VM โ 8 vCPU, 15 GB RAM, 250 GB disk is the reference build; 4 vCPU / 8 GB works if you're stingy. Then follow the install block in the README: agent user, Tailscale, the stack, the desktop.
Option B โ Hetzner or any cloud VPS
Spin up an Ubuntu 24.04 VPS with your provider of choice and run the same stack on it. The machine is yours; the tailnet keeps it off the public internet.
What you get on the box
- swapdThe credential proxy โ the agent writes
hsurr:placeholders, real values swap on allowlisted hosts, every swap audited. - confirmdThe approvals plane โ sensitive actions pause for your tap on your phone.
- muse-jobThe job runner CLI โ spawn, watch, and manage agent work across sessions.
- cred-uiLocalhost-only credential management โ values never displayed or logged.
- desktopA real desktop the agent can drive, reached over your tailnet.
Everything is localhost-bound and reached over Tailscale + SSH. No public attack surface by default.
Rough edges, honestly
This is a real project in the open, not a polished appliance. If a step confuses you, that's a docs PR waiting to happen โ the repo's CONTRIBUTING.md has the process. Got it running on Proxmox, a Raspberry Pi, or another cloud? Add your path next to the Unraid and Hetzner ones.
